Konichiwa! I will be traveling to Japan as a Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar to study its educational system and culture from October 1-19, 2006. Feel free to post questions or comments. I will use this as a way to communicate with family, friends, colleagues, and students. I'll try to reply to as many as I can, when I can. The clock below shows you what time it is in Japan....Remember, Japan is 12 hours AHEAD of the United States! They are living in the future!

In one day......

In one day we did the following:
1. We went to the Ohara Art Museum and saw a wonderful western art exhibit. They have quite a collection. It is a beautiful museum!
2. We took a walking tour of the cultural district where we saw a shrine. When we got to the top (millions of stairs!) we actually saw a Japanese wedding taking place.
3. We ate lunch at a wonderful Japanese style restaurant (more sushi).
4. We went on a tour of the Mitsubishi Motor Plant.
5. We went to the Seto-Ohashi bridge (amazing)!

It was a full day - again, opportunities of a lifetime. We have talked about the fact that if I were to take a trip to Japan on my own, I would never know about the area that I am visiting. At this point - when I come back to Japan, this is where I am coming!!!!

wow- how are your feet holding up?

i was thinking about you today what with all the stuff in the news about hostilities brewing between japan and north korea. i suspect that you are in far too diplomatic a position to discuss it with anyone.
