Konichiwa! I will be traveling to Japan as a Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar to study its educational system and culture from October 1-19, 2006. Feel free to post questions or comments. I will use this as a way to communicate with family, friends, colleagues, and students. I'll try to reply to as many as I can, when I can. The clock below shows you what time it is in Japan....Remember, Japan is 12 hours AHEAD of the United States! They are living in the future!

I have arrived in Kurashiki!!!

I have died and gone to heaven. This is the most amazing place! It is considered to be a resort community and now I see why. We are in a hotel that sits on the main street in Kurashiki. Right outside of my window is the historic district. Some of the homes are over 100 years old. Plus, our hotel sits in front of the Kurashiki museum. We were told today that there is a family from this area called the Ohara family. They have quite a bit of money and they have put it in to this town. They have worked to keep its historical area in wonderful condition. Kip would be so impressed! It is absolutely beautiful. I do not think my pictures will do it justice. We will go on a walking tour tomorrow so I will get more specifics about the buildings.

I feel very blessed tonight! This is a place I would have never found on my own.
