Konichiwa! I will be traveling to Japan as a Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar to study its educational system and culture from October 1-19, 2006. Feel free to post questions or comments. I will use this as a way to communicate with family, friends, colleagues, and students. I'll try to reply to as many as I can, when I can. The clock below shows you what time it is in Japan....Remember, Japan is 12 hours AHEAD of the United States! They are living in the future!

The last day at school....

Today is my last day at OLV. I am tired and overwhelmed. We have a prayer service every Thursday. It just so happened that the sixth graders (my class) were in charge of the prayer service. It was wonderful! During the prayers - they made a special mention of my travels and prayed "for a blessed trip to Japan and a safe return to us". Needless to say - I was a basket case! Then, to make it even more difficult, I was called to the front of the building for a special prayer from the entire school. Charlie came up with me and it was very special! I love all of the support.....

My students are working on gathering all of the questions I am going to answer while I am in Japan. We have collected questions from the entire school, and now they are organizing them by category. All of the questions will be posted in the halls. Upon my return - we are going to get all of my information together and answer all of the questions. It is really an awesome project!

What a wonderful way for them to see you off. I will look forward to reading your first impressions of Asia. Are you watching Kurosawa movies to prepare? Or "Lost in Translation?"
Pack comfy soft socks to wear on the plane. And drink lots of water....
